Cost & quotes

Most removals run about $450 to $1,800, depending on the tree's size, how close it is to the house or power lines, and how easy it is to reach. A small curbside tree is at the low end; a large tree tight against the house is at the high end. You get the exact price in person first.
A typical trimming job runs about $300 to $900, depending on the tree's size and how much is coming off. A small ornamental costs far less than a tall, overgrown ficus. We quote it on-site after we see the tree.
Stump grinding usually runs about $150 to $500, or roughly $3 to $5 per inch of stump diameter. Bigger stumps and tight, hard-to-reach spots cost more, and we can grind it the same day we take a tree down.
No. We come look at the tree in person and set the price before any work starts, and the number we quote is the number you pay. No phone guesses, and no charge for the visit.

Permits & Carson rules

For a tree on your own private property, generally no. The City of Carson's tree rules cover public parkway and street trees, not private backyard trees, so there is usually no permit for your own tree.
Those are the city's trees, handled by Public Works, and trimming them needs a city permit. If your tree sits on the strip between the sidewalk and the curb, we will point you to the city.
The Los Angeles County oak ordinance only applies to unincorporated areas, not the City of Carson, so it does not cover your private Carson property. We still treat mature coast live oaks carefully when we work on them.

Tree removal & trimming

Yes, and that is the main reason to hire a crew that rigs. We rope the limbs and trunk down in sections, or bring a crane, so nothing drops on the roof, the fence, or the lines.
Often, yes. Plenty of trees that look like removals just need the deadwood out and the crown thinned or reduced. We will tell you honestly whether a trim keeps it safe or whether it is too far gone.
Usually no more than about a quarter of the canopy at a time. Taking more than that stresses the tree and brings back weak, fast growth, so we thin and shape it rather than strip it out.
No. Topping cuts the main limbs back to stubs, which is bad for the tree and forces weak, dense regrowth that fails in the wind. We prune to ANSI standards with proper reduction cuts.
Most residential removals are a half to a full day, depending on the tree's size and how easy it is to reach. You get the timeline along with the on-site quote.

Stumps, palms & cleanup

We can grind the stump the same day we take the tree down, a few inches below grade so you can replant or pave over the spot, or leave it if you prefer. Just tell us which.
Grinding for almost everyone, since it is faster, cleaner, and cheaper. Full excavation only makes sense when every root has to come out, like for a pool or a foundation.
We pull the dead fronds and the heavy seed pods and skin the trunk, but leave the green fronds the palm still feeds on. We never do the hurricane cut, which starves the palm and weakens the crown.
Always. Hauling the wood, grinding the chips, and raking the yard are part of the job, not an add-on. If you want the rounds left for firewood, just tell us and we will stack them.

Storm, tree health & service area

Yes. When Santa Ana winds bring limbs down or a tree fails onto a roof or driveway, we clear the hazard and make the site safe. Call as early as you can during a wind event, since those days fill up fast.
We move as fast as we can on hazards, and same-day where we can. During a big wind event the schedule fills, so the earlier you call, the sooner we can get to you.
A tiny beetle that bores into the wood and carries a fungus that blocks the tree's water, leaving pin-sized oozing holes and canopy dieback. It has been killing trees across L.A. County since 2003, and we check for it.
Sometimes, if it is caught early. Light borer, a root issue, or storm damage can often be managed with the right pruning or care. A tree that is mostly dead or hollow is usually past saving, and we tell you which.
